Ginder Is Top Grinder In Casper!
The Wyoming Motorcycle Trials Association played host to the AHRMA National series this weekend, including the vintage riders in their running of the 27th annual Mosteller Cup. The vintage riders were treated to a weekend of “real” trials sections, running most of the same lines the modern bikes were running, including foot deep water crossings, steps, drops, log crossings, climbing a waterfall and a heck of a mud bog. For those that needed even more stimulation, this unique event allowed the opportunity to compete on modern bikes after the vintage event concluded.
Yamaha TY mounted Bob Ginder narrowly edged Dave Lindeman and his Ossa for Saturday’s Modern Classic Expert win. Only 2 points separated the riders in this low scoring loop. Trialsmaster for this weekend, Fred Martinson, guided his TY250 to third,12 points behind Lindeman. Sunday’s event didn’t offer a lot of change as Ginder maintained his winning ways, although by a much larger margin, finishing on 14 to the 31 point score of Lindeman. Colorado rider Mike Wehling, changed classes for Sunday’s event, and finished third today, three points back of Lindeman, and a solid 12 points ahead of Martinson who hung on for fourth.
Tony Down, riding a beautifully prepared TY, navigated his way to a win in Saturday’s Modern Classic Intermediate class with a low 3 point score. Tom Sharkey would finish another eight points back for second while Travis Stevens and Dan Straka would tie for fourth another point back. Stevens was awarded the position based on cleans. Things would shake up considerably on Sunday though, as Straka rode strong and came back for the win, pushing Down back to second on the day. Stevens maintained third, while Sharkey fell to fourth.
Greeves mounted Mike Buchholz, dropped only a single point to top the Premier Lightweight Expert class on Saturday. Mike Parsley would finish only a point behind for second while Mike Wheling wrapped up third dropping only 5. The finishing order for Sunday would be reversed as Parsley took the win with six points dropped to the 11 point score of Buchholz.
